Clubs & activities

Student government

Holy Spirit's student government serves as a liaison between the students and the administration, and conducts service activities such as collections for Grains of Hope. The government consists of four elected officers — President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. Each class from Grades 4 to 8 also elects a representative and an alternate, who present suggestions from the student body and carry information back to the students. Elections are held in the fall.

National Junior Honor Society

Membership is open to Grade 6 students at the end of the academic year. An invitation is extended to students with a cumulative average of 95% in Language Arts, Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies and Religion, and a clean disciplinary record.

After an application is submitted, a team of faculty members reviews it for leadership, character and service. Once admitted, a student must maintain grades and conduct, model leadership, and donate ten hours of service to Holy Spirit School.

Chess Club

Meet friends and have fun playing a game that has been around for 1,500 years. Chess helps you strategise and stay calm under pressure, and it has been shown to support critical thinking and problem-solving. The outcome of a game can change with every move.

The Paraclete — school newspaper

Middle school students on the newspaper team work together to create content and layouts for Holy Spirit's quarterly publication. They interview familiar and new faces around the school, take student polls, and attend school functions and sporting events to highlight everything going on in our active school community.

Photography Club

For students in Grades 5–8. Participants learn to use a variety of camera formats, explore techniques, and learn the history of photography. Topics include composition, colour correction, photo editing, portraits, macro and landscape.

Students do not need to bring a camera — one is provided. The club meets every other Tuesday and is limited to 15 students.

Choir

Open to students in Grades 2–8 who wish to enrich their vocal performance. Students meet on Thursdays after school until 4:15 PM, learning vocal warm-ups and singing a variety of songs.

Craft Club

Meets on certain Thursdays after school for children in Kindergarten and Grade 1. Moderator: Mrs. Hicock.

Board Game Club

Mondays from 3:00 to 4:00 PM in the second grade classroom, open to children in Grades 2–5 — a chance to meet new friends while enjoying classic board games. Moderator: Mrs. Camiolo.
