School safety & visitors

Every visit to the building is by appointment. It is a small friction that buys a great deal of security.

Every time a visitor is allowed in the school building there is a potential security risk. Anyone entering the building must have an appointment, meaning the office staff must know you are coming, when, and why. This affects picking children up early, dropping items off to students or the office, and meeting with faculty and staff.

How each visit works

  • Dropping off an item: there is a plastic bin inside the vestibule at the main entrance. Press the button to be let in, tell the office staff member who answers who you are and what you are leaving, and make sure the item is clearly labelled. It will be retrieved and delivered.
  • Picking up a child early: call the office ahead of time or send a note clearly labelled for the office. Your name is then placed on the list for clearance into the building at that time.
  • Dropping off a late child: bring them into the vestibule and an office staff member will take your child where they need to go.
  • Meeting Sister Marie or a teacher: you must have an appointment, so call ahead to schedule a convenient time. You will not be allowed into the building to find available teachers before, during or after school.
  • If you have an appointment, are the lunch aide for the day, or are volunteering: you will be let into the vestibule and then through the second set of doors. Proceed to the office, sign in and receive a visitor badge. A teacher you are meeting will collect you from the office and escort you. No one wanders the building. Sign out and return the badge before you leave.
  • All entering and exiting is through the main entrance near the parking lot. Never knock at another door — staff and students are taught never to let anyone in those doors, and please do not exit by another door.
